Brandon Marsel Scheunemann, a 2005-born wonder from Malang, is making waves in Indonesian football. With a height advantage of 187 cm, he's a dual threat, capable of dominating as a center-back or switching gears to control the game as a defensive midfielder. There’s no denying that talent runs in the family; his dad, Timo Scheunemann, well-steeped in both Indonesian and German football culture, has been his guiding light.
Starting out at SSB Putra Gemilang and Ricky Nelson Academy, Brandon embarked on his football journey. In 2021, he showcased his skills with PSIS Semarang U-20, then moved to Persis Solo U-20 before a spectacular return to PSIS Semarang in 2023. His professional debut at 17 in Liga 1 marked him as one of the league's youngest stars. Loaned to Persipura Jayapura, he sharpened his game in League 2, and by January 2025, Arema FC snapped him up for their defensive line-up.
Internationally, Brandon has been under the watchful eye of Shin Tae-yong with Indonesia's U-20 squad during 2022/2023. Although he missed the cut for the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup, his dedication was obvious in training sessions. The belief in his potential paid off in June 2025 when he received a call-up from Coach Gerald Vanenburg for the U-23 AFF Championship, proving that hard work prevails over circumstances.
Growing up as Timo Scheunemann's son, Brandon's life is deeply embedded in soccer. Despite his German roots, he’s more in tune with Indonesian and Javanese languages, illustrating his strong local connection. Interestingly, he's taken a path opposite his dad, opting to solidify defenses rather than attack. This choice speaks volumes of his maturity and tactical acumen at such a tender age. As he evolves in his role, Brandon is a testament to fresh, homegrown talent thriving in the Indonesian football landscape.
