Ciprian Marica, a minority shareholder at Farul Constanța, unleashed his frustration about the disputed refereeing decisions post their 1-1 match with FC Botoșani. The 'Marinarii' were left fuming after a potential penalty was ignored at 0-0, and the manner Botoșani scored their goal, which came amidst alleged attacking foul play. The kickoff to the new Superliga season has been marred with refereeing blunders.
Ref botches have already provoked grumbling from league heavyweights Rapid and Universitatea Craiova, who have threatened severe actions if the mistakes don't stop. More controversies occurred during the drama-filled FC Botoșani versus Farul Constanța game. Contacting Gazeta Sporturilor, Marica didn’t hold back with his critique, zeroing in on referee Horia Mladinovici’s decision-making on the pitch.
In a scathing assessment, Marica highlighted two troubling decisions against Farul: 'Such a pity about these mistakes. I thought Mladinovici was a solid ref, but his 5% home bias felt like 25% today. He seemed too hasty with his calls,' he exclaimed. On the early uncalled penalty: 'I wanted referees to understand the situation. Try being pulled just enough to lose balance—not getting a foul call hurts! It looked like a penalty, even after VAR confirmed.'
Complaints also resonated around the Botoșani goal from a supposed foul: 'Same again, there’s that slight pull which unbalances. A young player like Maftei needs to learn from this—he's stopped and assumed a foul when he shouldn’t have. It’s about everybody making mistakes, but be responsible! We sink major time and money for this, so show up ready!' Marica wrapped things positively after Zicu’s official debut: 'It was a challenging match, about what I expected. Not bad, but it could be better. Optimism remains—we can improve. Diogo Ramalho, an addition, and Maftei showed promise. Relations in play need work, but we'll get there.'
